The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 was passed to ensure that private individuals who keep dangerous wild animals do so without causing the public any harm and maintain animal welfare. The Act gives the Council powers of inspection, powers to place conditions on the licence, and the power to seize any animal that is kept on a premises that is unlicensed. This does not apply to zoos and pet shops which have separate licensing arrangements. Any person who keeps a dangerous wild animal without a licence or who fails to comply with the terms of a licence is guilty of an offence.
The fee for a licence is £638.00 for a period of 12 months.
