Since the commencement of the wheeled bin service, the criteria for the issue of a smaller or larger wheeled bin have been kept under review.
The criteria set out below have been in place for the last few months and seem to be providing a balance between the needs of larger and smaller households and the wish of the Council to attain top quartily recycling performance.
Request a bigger / smaller wheeled bin or blue box online here
The criteria are as follows:
- the standard issue bin is 180 litres
- the following criteria apply on the request of the householder for a different size wheeled bin:
(a) 4 or more persons in the household - a larger bin, normally 240 litres
(b) a child in nappies counts as 2 persons; therefore, for example, a couple with a child still in nappies is entitled to a larger bin
(c) medical cases are treated on their individual merits
(d) a request for a smaller bin is automatically granted
(e) in all other cases a request for a larger bin is not granted until an assessment has been undertaken by officers, to ensure that the household is making the fullest use of all the kerbside and other recycling facilities which the Council has made available
- all requests can be made online here, or can be made on the appropriate form, available from Environmental Services
- a change in household circumstances may result in a review of the wheeled bin provided
These criteria will be kept under review.
