CARE – Can we help?

Care and Repair at Epping Forest District Council aim to improve your living environment, independence and quality of life by respecting your individuality and assisting you to fulfil your needs.

CARE at EFDC understand that most people want to stay in their own homes for as long as possible, but might need assistance to tackle problems with old or unsuitable housing. The service seeks to assist older or disabled people or those on low incomes to improve, repair or adapt their homes.

In addition, we aim to tailor our service to meet your individual needs, and the following represents a sample of he services we provide:

  • Assistance in applying for grant aid (including help to fill in forms);
  • Providing links to other sources of information;
  • Help you to obtain quotes from approved contractors;
  • A personal case worker and home visits;

Grants available to eligible clients include Disabled Facilities Grants, Home Repairs Assistance Grants and Renovation Grants.

Care also provides a Handyperson service to assist pensioners with smaller repair jobs such as plumbing, guttering and general carpentry. The cost of the work is to be met by the client, however assistance can be given to those who are in receipt of an income related benefit.

The Hayndyperson service can also be used to fit items designed to prevent falls around the home e.g. by fitting grab rails and hand rails, and making repairs to stairs and steps. This work is free of charge to all eligible clients.
