The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 require employers to minimise the risks in VDU work by ensuring that workplaces and jobs are well designed. They apply to all staff who use VDUs as a significant part of their work, including the self-employed and those who work from home.
Employers have to:
Ensure workstations meet minimum requirements
Plan work so there are breaks or changes of activity
On request arrange eye tests, and provide spectacles if special ones are needed
Provide health and safety training and information
