We investigate complaints concerning poor air quality, and undertake work to monitor and prevent atmospheric pollution. We authorise prescribed processes which are subject to air pollution control.
Local authorities must undertake a review and assessment of air quality in its area. Where the review identifies that prescribed air quality objectives are not likely to be achieved, the authority must identify the areas and designate them as Air Quality Management Areas (AQMA).
This authority participates in the national Nitrogen Dioxide (NOx) survey.
We have established a contaminated land strategy and we investigate complaints.
Drinking Water Quality We keep ourselves informed about the wholesomeness and sufficiency of water supplies provided to premises in our area, including every private supply to any premises. Public water supplies in the District originate from two companies, Thames Water and Three Valleys Water Company. Officers attend regular liaison meetings with both of the water companies.
There are over 100 premises in the District that are supplied with water from private supplies such as wells or bores to the aquifer. A regular sampling regime is in place to ensure that the statutory requirements are met. Enforcement action can be taken should any supply not reach the required standard.
