Sheltered housing for older people

Sheltered housing includes special features to make the properties suitable for older residents. It is suitable for people who are capable of living on their own but feel more secure with the support of a visiting Scheme Manager. People living in the Council's sheltered housing have a connection to our Careline emergency alarm system. Some sheltered housing is all within one building, with a communal lounge where social activities are organised.  Other properties are self-contained flats, bungalows or studio flats in groups or areas.

You can apply to our Housing Options Section for council-owned and housing association sheltered housing in Epping Forest District. First you will need to join our Housing Register.

"Very Sheltered" Housing

Jessopp Court is a "Very Sheltered" housing scheme in Waltham Abbey. It is managed in partnership between Epping Forest District Council and Essex County Council Social Care. The scheme meets the needs of older people who want to lead a full and independent life, but need of a higher level of support than sheltered housing usually provides. The flats are entirely self contained with living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Each flat is also fitted with an emergency alarm system. A separate guest room is available for family and friends. Care and support is provided by a team of care staff who are on the premises 24 hours daily. Their job is to give physical and emotional support. They work with residents to plan the care they need and help them to live independently.

To be considered for a property at Jessopp Court you can apply through your local Social Care Office or to Housing. Click here to apply for housing in Epping Forest district.

CARE (the Care and Repair Agency)

The Care and Repair Agency is a specialist part of environmental health and is funded by EFDC and the 'supporting people' regime. It provides help to vulnerable home owners, enabling them to carry out repairs to keep their homes fit to live in. The agency works closely with the private sector housing officer acting as a link between the client and the rest of the Local Authority. CARE can help eligible persons to obtain grants.
