As part of the landscape restoration plan for the site over five and a half thousand native trees and shrubs are due to planted. These will form a large woodland block mainly beside the Moreton Bridge Road and small copses around infrastructure to do with the operation of the landfill site.
Over a thousand trees were planted in the winter 2007/08 with a further four thousand five hundred will be planted in the winter 2008/09. We were very grateful to recieve a grant of £20,000 from Essex County Council's Tree Pledge which has gone towards the funding of all the trees to be palnted this winter.
For National Tree Week 2008, staff from Countrycare and Veolia organised five community tree planting days. Despite very difficult ground conditions brought on by the heavy clay and wet weather nearly a thousand trees were planted. In all over 220 hours of staff and volunteer time were given.
Our thanks go out to all the volunteers and pupils from Dr Walkers Primary School in Fyfield for their help.
