   The United Nations have declared

2010 as the International Year of

   Biodiversity.

In the UK the International Year of Biodiversity – UK (IYB- UK) is a growing network of organisations which aim to work together to monitor, conserve and celebrate biodiversity

It will have the following aims:

  • to increase awareness of  the importance of biodiversity for our well being
  • to halt the loss of biodiversity, which is currently up to 100 times greater than the natural rate of extinction
  • to celebrate the success stories

Countrycare on behalf of the District Council have signed up to be a partner of the IYB–UK and are currently one of 170 partners across the UK. Throughout 2010, Countrycare will focus much of its work on promoting biodiversity  and showcasing its work with others.

A key date is 22 May 2010 which will be  International Day for Biological Diversity and Countrycare will be looking to hold a small event to mark the day.

The one thing you can do to help is volunteer!! We undertake a whole range of projects focused on enhancing and promoting biodiversity. So think globally and act locally........ see the latest news, walks, talks, events and volunteering page for all that's going on.
