Document title: Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) Scoping Report
Commissioning details: The SA Scoping Report was commissioned by the EFDC
Produced by: The SA Scoping Report was undertaken by Scott Wilson (Consultants)
Completion date: Nov 2010
Purpose of document: The District Council is in the initial stages of preparing a Core Planning Strategy for the district – this is the key new planning policy document which will look ahead to 2031and eventually replace the Local Plan.
All new planning policy documents need to be subject to “Sustainability Appraisal” (SA) – ie an assessment of the likely economic, environmental and social effects of the new policies. The SA provides information to help everyone judge whether the new policies being put forward are the most appropriate, and whether changes should be made. It is therefore important to get it right.
In preparing the SA, its scope and level of detail need to be agreed before it is used to assess issues, options and policies. This stage of preparation of the SA is called the “Scoping Report”.
Consultation on the previous draft of the SA Scoping Report ran from 17 May to 9 July 2010.
The final report was produced by the consultants, having considered the responses made to the consultation.
