West Essex PCT wants to advise people that they can still access many NHS services over the Christmas and New Year period. If people need medical advice and are unsure what to do they can phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647. A nurse will be available to give advice 24 hours a day seven days a week. NHS Direct is also available on line at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk. Satellite TV viewers can press the interactive button on their remote to get a range of advice and information.
During the Christmas and New Year period GP surgeries in West Essex will be closed on the bank holidays as usual. For emergency advice when the surgery is closed, ring your GP surgery for information on the out-of-hours service.
The Harlow Walk-in centre will be open for advice and treatment of minor injuries and illnesses throughout the Christmas and New Year period. It will open each day 9am to 10pm except on Christmas Day when it will be open 9am to 5pm.
Our community clinics will be closed as usual at weekends and during the bank holidays, otherwise normal opening hours apply.
Dental practices will also be closed over the Christmas and New Year period. The dental service runs an out of hours emergency service and you can call your dental surgery for the emergency number.
Your pharmacist can give advice on a range of minor illnesses. Pharmacists in Epping and Harlow are providing cover over the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
