Neighbourhood Watch is a way for local people to get together to help prevent crime and make their community a safer place. Neighbourhood Watch schemes often begin with people sharing crime reduction advice, keeping an eye on each other’s properties and learning to communicate effectively with the police.

The benefits of Neighbourhood watch are an improved community spirit and a reduced fear of crime. Essex has a County Neighbourhood Watch association, which co-ordinates the work across the country.
