The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, as amended by the Police Reform Act 2002, sets out the statutory requirements for responsible authorities to work together with other local agencies, organisations and people to develop and implement strategies to tackle crime and disorder, help create safer communities and tackle misuse of drugs in their area. These statutory partnerships are known as Community Safety Partnerships.
In Epping Forest the partnership is made up of a number of local organisations including:
Working together, these responsible authorities are required to carry out a strategic assessment to identify crime and disorder and misuse of drug problems in their area and develop strategies which deal effectively with them. These partner organisations are also required to work closely with local education and invite co-operation from a range of local private, voluntary and other public and community groups including the community itself.
Working in partnership brings many benefits; it simplifies the local working arrangements, gives greater recognition to common interests and provides the right framework to enable the more effective delivery of the crime reduction and drug agendas. Effective partnership working is key to lasting community safety.
Keep an eye out for our Partnership logo with regular crime prevention advice in your local newspaper.
Every year, the Partnership produces a Strategic Assessment and Partnership Plan to tackle specific crimes in the district. These include vehicle crime, burglary and domestic violence. The progress and implementation of the Partnership Plan is checked regularly by the Epping Forest Safer Communities Strategy Panel.
