The Epping Forest District Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has 3 main branches. These are at Epping, Loughton and Waltham Abbey. In addition there are outreach services at Buckhurst Hill, Limes farm and Ongar. In total, the CAB in the District deals with in excess of 20,000 enquiries each year. CABs offer free, confidential and give impartial advice and are independent of any other organisation.

The CAB give basic legal advice and also assist with practical help such as filling in forms, making telephone calls or drafting letters. They deal with a very wide variety of subjects, but the majority of local cases are concerned with social security, debt, housing, employment, consumer or family matters.
The Epping Forest District CAB has its own dedicated website which provides residents with lots of useful public information.
All the main offices provide daily drop-in services and also deal with enquiries over the phone and by letter.
ClearStart is a free national debt helpline set up to help people recover from serious debt offering advice on individual voluntary arrangements, debt management solutions and bankruptcy.

The service provides self-help advice to its callers and also produces written self-help packs and fact sheets to back this up. The service can also assist callers with the setting up of Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVA) Debt Management Plans, Bankruptcy & Debt Relief Orders.
Many bureaux provide advice sessions at places that are easier for the public to get to, or where there is a specific need for advice, for example at GP surgeries, hospitals, courts, colleges and community centres.
