Tenant involvement
Your voice - Your choice
Tenant participation is about giving choices and encouraging tenants to have a say in how their homes are managed.
The Epping Forest Tenants and Leaseholders Federation has a District-wide Tenant Participation Agreement with the Council. It sets out how the Council and the Federation work together to promote tenant participation throughout the district, and involve people in the management of their housing service. Many tenants are already involved in some way. Some have joined their local residents group, and may represent their group on the Federation. Others attend meetings, take part in community events or panels, or give their views by completing surveys.
It's the tenant's choice - and the Agreement reflects the variety of ways in which people like to get involved. Our Tenant Participation Officer encourages and supports them. We have worked with tenants to set up residents associations across the district. We have several local tenant participation agreements and would like all council tenants and leaseholders to participate in some way.
Other groups include a Sheltered Housing Forum (for residents living in our sheltered accommodation) a Leaseholders Association, a Rural Tenants Forum, a Repairs Focus Group and a Tenant Talkback panel that looks at special issues. Epping Forest District Tenants and Leaseholders Federation has representatives from every tenants' association in the District. Its members hold regular meetings with the Council. They are consulted on new policies and give feedback on how services could be improved.
Where an association does not exist we can help set one up and give support. After all, when residents become involved, communities thrive. For more details or to find out about your local group, you can phone our Tenant Participation Officer on 01992 564524 or send an email to: involvetenants@eppingforestdc.gov.uk
