Details and prices for loan boxes, workshops in schools and workshops in the museum.
Loan boxes are available for hire for half a term at a time.
Costs
If you wish to extend your booking, this can only be done at the end of the half term, provided no other school has requested it in the meantime. Topic boxes are usually delivered to and collected from your school by the Education Officer. This service is only available to schools within a 20 mile radius of the museum.
Available Days: workshops in school can be booked on any day of the week, subject to availability.
Timings: workshops last one hour and can be delivered in the classroom to one class of pupils at a time. Timings can be arranged to suit you, and to fit in with break and lunchtimes.
You needn't rearrange your classroom. For most workshops it is best if pupils sit at their tables in five groups if possible. Some workshops require use of a whiteboard, projector and a PC for additional support materials which will be brought on a CD.
This service is only available to schools within a 20 mile radius of the museum.
Information for workshops at Epping Forest District Museum
Available Days: Workshops in Epping Forest District Museum are only available on Wednesdays and Thursdays when we are closed to the public, so you will have the whole museum to yourself. There is a maximum of one class of up to 35 pupils at a time within the museum, owing to limited space in the galleries. Workshops in the museum last two hours.
Timings can be arranged to suit you. The class will be split into two groups: one group will work with the Education Officer for one hour doing one of the workshops from the list, the other group will work on activities using relevant displays. The activities and all resources including clipboards and pencils where appropriate will be provided by the Education Officer, but the teacher and / or group leaders are responsible for supervising these activities. The two groups will swap over for the second hour.
Lunch: There isn't lunch space within the museum, but there is a shady garden where you can have lunch, or the Abbey Gardens are close by, with lots of space to run around.
Goody bags can be made up in advance of your visit, if you require them, up to a value of your choice. There will be a selection of items, some general and some relevant to the topic of study if available.
Coach parking is available close by in the Abbey Gardens. It is free of charge, but must be booked in advance by calling Lea Valley Park on 01992 702227.
Toilet: please note there is only 1 toilet in the museum.
Access: two of the galleries which will be used in all workshops are only accessible via three flights of stairs. We regret we do not have lift access to the upper floors.
