In 2007, some 40,000 young scouts travelled from around the globe to attend the 21st World Scout Jamboree commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the scouting movement.
This gathering, held between 27 July to 8 August 2007 in Hylands Park Chelmsford was without precedent and represented a truly international gathering in a context of celebrating, hope, peace and preparation for the future.
The World Scout Jamboree's are generally held every 4 years since the first in 1920 at Olypmia. All those arriving for the Jamboree travelled through the gateway at North Weald Airfield.
To commemorate this historic occasion, on Tuesday 27 May 2008 representatives from the World Scout Jamboree Team planted six representative trees from the continents of the world in the presence of the Chairman of Epping Forest District Council, John Knapman accompanied by last year's Chairman, Councillor Caroline Pond.

These trees represent the spirit of the Jamboree preparing for the future in the hope for growth into a new life of co-operation and peace.

The District Council is pleased to be able to offer a Commemorative Tree Planting Service for any occasion of personal or community significance to enable the occasion to be embedded in the very fabric of the District.
