Lifewalkers Experiences

"Lifewalks" offers 5 guided health walks every week (this includes our Saturday Walks For All) in and around Waltham Abbey. The walks are all quite short - from just under 1 mile to just under 3 miles - and there are no hills to struggle up or stiles to climb over.

Improve your health the easy way

     - no sweat, no pain, just lots of fun!

Image of Walking in Autumn 2003To halve your risk of a heart attack or stroke you just need to walk for 20 -30 minutes at least 3 times a week. You do need to walk a little faster than usual but only as though you are a bit late for an appointment - fast enough to get warm and a little out of breath but not sweaty or puffed out.

The specially trained walk leaders will make sure you walk fast enough to do yourself good but not so fast to put yourself at risk.

"Lifewalks" is being funded by the Countryside Agency and the Council along with a number of local partners. The scheme is approved by Epping Forest Primary Care Trust, local GP's and the British Heart Foundation. "Lifewalks" is being run under the umbrella of the national " Walking - the way to health" initiative from the Countryside Agency and British Heart Foundation.

Over 50 people are already improving their health on "Lifewalks". Their ages range from 30-something to over 80 - proof that anyone can go on health walks (even if you've had a heart transplant as one walker has!)
