The Disability Equality Involvement Group

The Disability Equality Involvement Group works to ensure equality for disabled people throughout Council services. The group of local residents and representatives of organisations of disabled people in the district meet 3-4 times a year to advise the Council on the needs and requirements of disabled people, and how the Council can help to improve the everyday lives of disabled people.

The Aims of the group are:

  • To improve car parking and transport for people with disabilities
  • To improve housing and building accessibility for people with disabilities
  • To improve information for people with disabilities
  • To raise awareness of disability

Some of the group's achievements include:

  • Obtaining an undertaking that the Lifetime Homes Standard will for part of the Local Development Framework for new homes
  • Assisting in the identification of a system to enable visually impaired people to manage their recycling
  • Contributing to a training package for licensed taxi drivers
  • Holding community events in the district to raise awareness and understanding of disability

If you would like to help the Disability Equality Involvement Group work with the Council to progress greater equality for disabled people living and working in the district we would love to hear from you. Travelling expenses can be reimbursed and interpretation services arranged where necessary. All meetings take place at the Civic Offices in Epping which are fully disabled accessible.
