The Register of Electors is a list compiled and held by the Council. It contains the names and addresses of everyone elegible to vote in UK elections or referendums.
Anyone who is not on the register will be unable to vote in District, Parish / Town, County, Parliamentary and European Parliament elections.
You can register to vote if you are 16 years old or over and a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen. If you are 16 or 17, you can only register if you will be 18 within the lifetime of the electoral register. This year's register lasts from 1 December 2006 to 30 November 2007.
You cannot vote until you are 18
Most people register between September and November every year when the Council delivers a registration form to your home.
However, you can also register throughout the year as the register is updated every month. This is useful if you move home and need to register at your new address.
To help prevent fraud, registration forms are not available for collection but are posted out to the address you want to be registered at.
If you need a form, please phone electoral services on 01992 564 411 for more information.
A form can also be downloaded from the Electoral Commissions website About My Vote.
