Freedom of Information Act

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 came into force on 1 January 2005.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, anybody may request information from a public authority which has functions in England, Wales and/or Northern Ireland.

The Act confers two statutory rights on applicants:
  • To be told whether or not the public authority holds that information; and if so,
  • To have that information communicated to them.

Publication Scheme

The Freedom of Information Act requires all public authorities to adopt and maintain a publication scheme. Below is Epping Forest District Council's scheme under the Act. The idea of the scheme is to let everyone know what information will be automatically or routinely published by the district council. The way that the Act does this is to require that the scheme specify classes of information. Please click the link below to download the Publication Scheme.
