The Chairman of Epping Forest District Council Councillor Caroline Pond planted an Oak tree at Newmans Lane play area in Loughton on 23 November 2007.
Councillor Pond planted the Oak during National Tree Week to replace a mature, 160 year old one that was blown over in the gale during January of this year. She was joined by her husband County Councillor Chris Pond, David Barrett (Housing), George Haley (Tree Officer) and Andy Lederer (Assistant Tree Officer) from the Council.
Councillor Caroline Pond said: ”I was delighted to plant this tree which will hopefully be around for many years to come. We live directly opposite the Forest so are used to having ancient trees all around us. I am pleased that the Parks Department is planting throughout the District, so that many more people can enjoy the positive benefits that trees bring to our environment.”
