The Staff and Team of the Year Awards have been intoduced in 2008 to recognise those special contributions by staff at Epping Forest District Council that effect the lives of our residents.

The ‘Improving Services to the Community’ award goes to Lyndsay Swan of the Environment and Street Scene Directorate. Lyndsay delivers a range of private sector housing services for the elderly and vulnerable people of the District. She works tirelessly and has demonstrated exceptional commitment and initiative along with compassion and empathy for the people she serves.

The 'Innovation' award goes to the Community and Culture Team from Leisure Services. The Limes Farm housing estate in Chigwell has suffered for years from a variety of social problems which the Community and Culture Team are seeking to stem. They have developed an events programme including arts projects and football sessions for up to 90 young people leading to a measurable decline in nuisance and anti-social behaviour. Chris Burr and Victoria Tebbs received the award on behalf of the Community and Culture Team.

The ‘Dealing with the Public’ award went to Shirley Hawkins who has worked for the Council and its predecessors for forty years. In recent years she supported the former Joint Chief Executive, John Scott and since August has been PA to the new Deputy Chief Executive, Derek Macnab. Shirley, has also been a dedicated supporter of the various chairman’s charities, raising in excess of £4,000 with Christmas and Easter raffles over the years. Shirley is known for her encyclopaedic knowledge of all things to do with Epping Forest District Council and it is for her willingness and ability to solve people’s problems quickly and helpfully that Shirley has been recognised.

The ‘Special Events’ award goes to the North Weald Airfield Operations Team for its outstanding support of the World Scout Jamboree in July of last year. North Weald provided the logistical hub from which the main Jamboree events at Hylands Park were supported and up to 10,000 people passed through North Weald each day along with hundreds of buses and cars. Tons of food was also prepared and transported across. The demands on the Operations team were immense but the team came up trumps on every occasion, providing the world scouting movement with a first class service. John Ratnage and Colin I’Anson collected the award on behalf of the North Weald Airfield Operations Team.
