Join the Library this Weekend and Borrow a DVD for Free

Published on 1 April 2008

Essex libraries are offering a free DVD loan to anyone who joins the library this weekend.

Because the national Join A Library Day proved so successful, Essex County Council's libraries service has decided to extend the membership drive and give residents the chance to join and to get a DVD rental absolutely free.

County Councillor David Finch, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Community Wellbeing, said: "We had a tremendous response to our initial membership drive so we thought we would give people another chance to come and join the library and find out exactly what services are on offer. While joining the library is always free, if you visit any Essex library this weekend you can get a DVD rental for free - saving yourself £1.50 - our DVDs can be borrowed for a week and there are plenty of great titles to choose from. The County Council is committed to improving the quality of life of all its residents and services like those provided by our libraries can help enrich life in so many ways."

He added: "The library isn't just for books and DVDs, you can also borrow CDs or use one of the many other services, from Answers Direct, who can help you research and find answers to practically any question, to our extremely popular baby and toddler group Book Start. There is really something on offer for everyone so why not come down and join up this weekend?"

The Essex County Libraries membership drive will take place at libraries across the county on the weekend of 3 May and 4 May 2008. Just visit your local library, join up and receive your free DVD rental.
