Play in the Park

Published on 17 March 2009

Epping Forest District Council is piloting a brand new scheme for children during the Easter School Holiday. ‘Play in the Park’ is all about children and young people playing games and having fun outdoors.

Play Rangers will be visiting parks and open spaces in the district equipped with a wide range of equipment, such as tennis racquets, pogo sticks, giant board games, arts and crafts equipment and hoops, playing traditional games and creating new ones. The aim is to encourage children and young people to make more use of parks and open spaces and to re-assure parents that it is safe for children to play out. Play Rangers do their utmost to ensure children are kept safe yet at the same time provide opportunities for them to be challenged, take acceptable risks and have fun outdoors, come rain or shine.

Children enjoying a Play in the Park session

‘Play in the Park’ sessions are provided as play opportunities for children and young people and not as childcare. All participants may come and go as they please. Staff are not obliged to prevent any child from leaving the session.

‘Play in the Park’ is open to boys and girls aged 5 to 13 years. There is no charge and no need to book, just turn up and join in.
