Members of the Royal British Legion, councillors and staff at Epping Forest District Council showed their support for Britain’s Armed Forces on Monday 21 June 2010.
Prayers were offered during a ceremony led by Reverend Dr Jason Askew, Rector and Councillor Anne Grigg, Chairman of Council. The Armed Forces Day flag was raised to the sounds of a bugle played by Michael Wood of the Epping Forest Band.
Standing before the Civic Offices in bright sunshine, Rev Askew led the congregation in The Lord’s Prayer.
He also prayed for understanding and the reconciliation of nations, asking that our leaders be guided towards justice and righteousness and that the tasks of those engaged in war and those working for peace should soon be finished.
With the congregation he also prayed for those who have lost loved ones, for the hurt and injured, wishing healing, reconciliation and peace.
Councillor Mrs Grigg remembered those in our hearts and minds who are serving abroad and those who have fallen.
The Armed Forces Flag will fly outside the Civic Offices in Epping until 28 July 2010.
Armed Forces Day is on Saturday 26 June 2010. This annual celebration gives the nation the opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up our Armed Forces community, from current serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
