People in the Epping Forest district could be missing out on their right to vote in the upcoming General Election without even knowing it, according to Ian Willett, Electoral Registration Officer for Epping Forest district.
While the date for this year’s General Election is not yet known, residents are urged not to wait until the date has been announced before they secure their right to vote.
“The time between the election date being announced and the last change to register to vote can be a matter of a few days,” warns Ian Willett. “If you are not on the electoral register, you won’t be able to vote. You need to contact us now to ensure you can take part.”
As part of a re-launch of the Elections website pages, the Council has made available two videos which take you through the registration process and show how easy the voting process is. It also gives a never before seen insight into how the Council deals with your postal votes and how the election count works.
Watch these videos at the Council’s Elections website. The registration video is also available with sign language.
Ian Willett says: “We want to make sure that no-one misses out on their right to take part in these elections just because they aren’t registered to vote. Some people think that you are automatically registered once you pay Council Tax but that isn’t the case.”
