Update on Missed Collections

A dustcart skidded off the roadPublished on 15 January 2010

Properties that suffered two missed collections because of the recent severe weather conditions have been prioritised for collection. Progress had been slow as refuse collectors battled in arctic conditions across Epping Forest District.

There have been several incidences of injury to collection staff with the most recent being a dislocated shoulder on Wednesday. Dustcarts have struggled in the icy conditions with vehicles skidding off roads.

Smaller street cleansing trucks are being used to move the backlog of recycling sacks in roads where dustcarts cannot reach and transferring them to a temporary collection point where dustcarts can remove them.

This may temporarily lead to large amount of sacks at one point before they are removed.

High Streets and Daily cleansing areas are being street cleansed as normal, similarly dog bins, litter bins and delivery of dry recycling sacks to outlets are also being undertaken.

Missed collections from Tuesday 22 December 2009:
  • Refuse is all cleared
  • Recycling - Mamelons Farm Caravan Park, Roydon / Nazeing - yesterday still had access problems. This recycling is contained in 3 x 1100 litre bins and a Waste Officer is talking to the Caravan Park management today regarding the situation
  • Epping - Broadoaks, Sunnyside and Springfield - these will be cleared first thing this morning

Missed collections from Wednesday 23 December 2009:
  • Loughton - all outstanding refuse collection will be cleared today
  • Epping and North Weald - 7 outstanding roads will be cleared today

Missed collections from Thursday 24 December 2009:
  • Refuse - 20 outstanding roads will be completed today
  • Recycling - all roads outstanding - Sita are concentrating on this today, any that are left will be collected on Saturday

    Last weeks missed collections:
  • The most recent snow again caused major disruption to the scheduled collections last week. Collections were suspended on Thursday and there remain roads across the district that our contractor Sita could not gain access to. We are endeavouring to collect where it is safe to do so.

We would remind all residents who had a missed collection to leave out all refuse and recycling at their normal point of collection, including any side waste. We would like to thank all residents for their understanding and cooperation at this difficult time and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
