On Monday 20 June Epping Forest District Council proudly joined the nation’s celebrations as it recognised the contribution of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces by raising a specially commissioned flag to celebrate Britain’s third Armed Forces Day, which will take place on Saturday 25 June.
A short service was conducted by the Reverend Tony Morling , Minister from Loughton Methodist Church. The Chairman of Council, Councillor Ken Angold-Stephens raised the flag in front of senior councillors, officers from the district council and members of the Royal British Legion. A bugler from the Epping Forest Band played during the raising of the flag.
Councillor Ken Angold-Stephens, who had the honour of raising the flag, said ‘Armed Forces Day is a day when we invite the whole nation to show support for our military community, both serving and retired, at home and abroad’.
Last year over four thousand flags were flown around the country and Epping Forest will once again fly the flag throughout the week (20 - 27 June).
After the ceremony, the Chairman of Council hosted a small reception for those attending the event to raise funds for St Clare Hospice.
