Waltham Abbey parking controls return to normal

Temporary parking restrictions designed to protect residents and businesses from spectator parking during Olympic competition days at the Lee Valley White Water Centre have come to an end.

Residents and businesses within the zone were issued with free parking permits allowing them to park between 1pm and 2pm. Vehicles parked in the zone without a permit during the hour long restriction were issued with a Penalty Charge Notice. However, where notices were inadvertently issued to genuine residents or businesses, these can be cancelled by contacting the council.

The number of Penalty Charge Notices fell on each successive day. Forty-seven were issued on Sunday 29 July. By 1 August only 15 Notices had to be issued as residents and spectators got used to the arrangements.

London 2012 has been billed the ‘Public Transport Games’. Most people came to the venue from Cheshunt station followed by other forms of transport such as Park and Ride provided from North Weald Airfield and the University of Hertfordshire. The transport plan appears to have worked well. Waltham Abbey remained largely free of traffic congestion.
