Epping Forest District - Be inspired by 2012

In summer 2012, the eyes of the world will be on London as we host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The sporting events and cultural festivals that accompany them will be unforgettable for participants and spectators alike as they experience the greatest show on earth in the heart of one of the world's greatest cities.

Epping Forest is within close reach of the action – the Olympic Park in Stratford is just 25 minutes by underground from Epping. Cycle routes are also being developed so that residents from the area will be able to cycle through the heart of the Lee Valley down to the Olympic Park.

The 2012 Games will bring lasting benefits to the local and wider community including new homes, schools, jobs, health and sports facilities, all framed around a huge new urban park based in the heart of East London.

Epping Forest residents will be spoilt for their choice of world class sporting facilities when the venues for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are complete, with some open for public use as early as this year.

Lee Valley Regional Park is host to four London 2012 venues - the Lee Valley White Water Centre near Waltham Abbey, and the VeloPark, Hockey and Tennis centres on the Olympic Park. The Park Authority will own, fund and manage these venues after the Games and will be opening the Lee Valley White Water Centre to the public in spring 2011.

Essex is also an Olympic County. Spectators at the White Water Canoe event will be able to park their cars at North Weald Airfield for the short bus ride to Lee Valley Park.

Residents and visitors to Epping Forest District will also be a short journey from the mountain bike action at Hadleigh Farm off the A13 near Leigh-on-Sea.

Use the menu on the right to find out more about these world-class venues and the opportunities for residents and visitors to the Epping Forest district during the 2012 Olympics.
