Ways of paying your Council Tax
Information on how to pay your Council Tax and your Business Rates:
There are several ways to pay your bill.
Register online for Self-Service it is quick and easy to use. It will enable you to instantly view your account, check paymnets and other transactions, pay your bill and sign up for Direct Debit.
Alternatively, you can pay using the statutory scheme of 10 instalments unless an application is made in writing for one of the other payment methods below.

This secure site accepts most major debit and credit cards but not Diners Card or American Express.
Pay by Direct Debit
Direct Debit is the easiest and most cost-effective way to pay your bill. If you wish to set-up a Direct Debit, you can complete Direct Debit form and return it to the address shown below. We operate a variable Direct Debit scheme which offers flexibility and convenience with a range of payment dates and frequencies available. Please see direct debit form for payment options.
Alternatively, you can register for the Self-Service and manage your account, view your bills and set-up a Direct Debit.
You can also set-up your Direct Debit over the phone, without the need to complete any forms. To take advantage of this service please call us on 01992 564188 / 564189. When phoning please have your Council Tax Reference Number, plus your Bank Sort Code and Bank Account Number.

Pay in person
You can pay by cash, by cheque or by debit or credit card at our 3 venues. Remember to bring your Council Tax bill at the time of payment.
Opening hours are 9:00am to 4.45pm Mondays to Thursdays and 9:00am to 4.30pm Fridays (except Bank Holidays):

Pay by post
Send payments to Finance, Council Tax, Epping Forest District Council, Civic Offices, High Street, Essex, Epping, CM16 4BZ
Write your payment reference number with your name and address on the back of the cheque.
If you would like a receipt, send a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your bill.
Pay by 24 hour Telephone Payment
Call 01992 564600, we operate a 24 hour automated telephone payment service allowing you to make payments using your debit or credit card. You will need to have your Account Reference Number and debit or credit card available when telephoning the payment line.
Pay by Instalments
You can pay your Council Tax by instalments over 10 months, 12 months, half-yearly or yearly, by direct debit, cash, debit or credit card or by cheque.
There are 4 different ways to pay by instalments:
The statutory scheme which you will automatically receive with your bill, gives 10 monthly instalments payable on the 10th of the month running consecutively from April to January.
You can also request to pay by any of the following methods:
- By 12 monthly payments spreading your payments from April to March on the 10th of the month (please note that the number of instalments will be reduced if the plan starts late, the final payment will remain in March).
- Half-yearly payments to be made in April and October.
- A yearly payment to be made in April.
- If you wish to change your instalment plan from the statutory 10 instalments or you are having problems paying, we may be able to make an alternative arrangement please contact the council tax office

Pay at Post Office (by National Giro)
The Post Office may charge you for this service.
Quote your name, address and Council Tax or Business Rates Account Number on the payment.

The Bank may charge you for this service.
