What is GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new law that replaces the existing Data Protection Act. As of 25 May 2018 the GDPR comes into force and sets out requirements for how organisations need to handle personal data.

Your rights

Everyone now has greater rights in respect of the personal data that organisations hold about them.  Your rights include: -

  • Right of access - You are legally allowed to view your data.
  • Right to be information - You have the right to know what, how, where and for how long your data is used.
  • Right to rectification - Your have the right to amend any errors in the data held, or to choose to have the data erased.
  • Right to restrict processing - You have the right to stop data being used for certain purposes.
  • Right to data portability - Your have the right to move a copy of the data elsewhere.
  • Rights to object - You have the right to complain about how your data is being used.
  • You also have rights relating to automated decision making and profiling.

Privacy Notice

The information that you have provided will be held by the Council, will only be accessed by authorised persons and used in accordance and for the purposes set out in the associated Privacy Notice and we will not use it for any other purpose (unless you have given your consent, or this is otherwise required or permitted by law).  The privacy notice sets out:

  • the identity and contact details of the data controller
  • what personal data we collect about you
  • why we collect this information and how it will be used
  • the legal basis for processing this data
  • details of any transfer to third countries and safeguards in place
  • how long we will keep this data for
  • your rights as an individual you can exercise in relation to this data
  • how to make a complaint in the event you are unhappy about the way the data is processed by EFDC.

Our privacy notices are listed below, please click on the relevant link.  A hard copy is available upon request by way of email to dataprotection@eppingforestdc.gov.uk

Retention

The Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) Communities Directorate is dependent on its records in order to provide a high quality service to residents of the District and discarding data too soon would is likely to disadvantage those we serve.  Conversely keeping data for too long may lead to the information becoming out of date and that this outdated information will be used in error and as time passes it becomes increasingly more difficult to ensure that information held is accurate.  In addition to this the data must still be held securely and responding to subject access requests is naturally more difficult if we hold more data than required and by definition if we hold personal data held for longer than necessary it is likely to be held excessive.

A copy of our Retention Schedule is available upon request via email to dataprotection@eppingforestdc.gov.uk

Sheltered Housing Forum

The Sheltered Housing Forum is made up of tenants who live in the council’s sheltered housing schemes throughout the district. They meet five times each year in lounges at various sheltered schemes. Guest speakers attend the forum to talk about subjects of interest to the group, and members are consulted on a wide range of issues affecting tenants living in our sheltered housing. Transport is arranged for people who can't get themselves to a meeting, and there is an annual Christmas social.

Further details of meetings scheduled can be found on the Residents Associations page.
