Following the sighting, on the 19th July 1588, of the Armada off the Cornish coast, the 20th July saw the English fleet preparing to meet the Spanish in battle, a momentous struggle to determine the future of England.
On Saturday 20th July 2013, come and join Elizabethan naval captain Antony Witton at the Epping Forest District Museum, Waltham Abbey, between 10.30am and 4.00pm and help plan the 1588 battle against the much feared Spanish as they draw nearer to the English coastline. Using a fully interactive 6ft by 20 ft long period map of the English coast and model ships; what strategy will you use? What if the wind changes? Have you got enough ships in each port? Are your gun crews trained in the new naval battle tactics?
The event is a free drop in activity aimed at a family audience; there is no need to book.
The event is led by historical re-enactor Antony Witton of ‘Ages Alive’ and forms one of a number of events linked to the exhibition ‘The Tudors and Early Stuarts’ currently on show at the museum.
