There are 3 tiers of local Government in Essex which can be confusing for residents. In Partnership with Essex County Council we have produced an easy-to-read A to Z booklet of local services in the Epping Forest District.

This booklet will allow you quickly to find the important numbers that you need to access services in Essex.

Epping Forest District Council is working with Essex County Council to provide a better quality of life for everyone in the county whilst ensuring real value for money.

Who Does What in Essex:
• Essex County Council deal with adoption, adult education, carer support, citizenship ceremonies, Country parks, fostering, libraries, registration of births, deaths and marriages, roads and highways, schools, social care for adults, children and families, trading standards and consumer protection, transport planning, waste disposal and youth services
• Epping Forest District Council deal with animal nuisance, Council tax and business rates collection, electoral registration, environmental health, food safety, housing, parking and parking tickets, pest control, planning applications for homes and businesses, registering to vote, sports and recreation facilities, street cleaning and waste collection
• Shared responsibilities between Essex County Council and Epping Forest District Council include archives, conservation (buildings and environment), emergency planning, licensing, museums and galleries, public transport, recycling, sports development and tourism
• Parish and Town Councils deal with allotments, farmers’ markets and markets, parks and playing fields, village greens, village halls and community centres
