A Christmas message from Councillor Helen Kane, Chairman of Epping Forest District Council.
Chairman Helen Kane said:
As we approach Christmas, we are all aware that it is a very special time of the year, and it is an opportunity for us all, to reflect how incredibly challenging and stressful the last 2 years have been for everyone.
But, at a time when most of us were staying home to stay safe, thousands of key workers and volunteers were out in the community, doing absolutely essential work to keep the country running, educating our children, keeping shops and stores full to feed us, keeping us safe and nursing us through this terrible pandemic.
We are all truly inspired by the personal commitment made by these key workers and volunteers who worked tirelessly on the frontline to care for people in need, and the support staff working behind the scenes.
To our doctors and nurses who have battled through some of the worst conditions ever known – we thank you.
To the scientists who discover and developed the vaccine against this horrible virus in record time – we thank you.
And to every single person who went above and beyond during these extraordinary times – we thank you.
Christmas is that special time of year when, whatever has gone before, we must take the opportunity to celebrate all that is good in the world and to spend time with our friends and family.
So, whoever you are, wherever you are, and however you’re celebrating, I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and hope we can all look forward to the New Year as a new beginning.
