A ramble in the countryside around Ongar is one of the activities created as part of the Doorstep Activity Challenge.
Residents of Shelley estate
Targeted at residents of Shelley Estate the walk is also appropriate for those living in the surrounding areas.
The 3.9 miles circular route starts at Shelley Shops, St Peters Avenue, Ongar, Essex, CM5 0BT and takes in some beautiful open countryside with good views and points of interest.
The route is mainly flat but can be hard work in places because of the mud in the winter so, may not be suitable for people who are unsteady on their feet. Also there’s no climbing required over stiles or ditches and it will probably take around two hours to cover the route.
Fancy a challenge? Why not have a go at CountyCare’s longer route.

Doorstep activity challenge
The Community Culture and Wellbeing team at Epping Forest District Council has put together the Doorstep Activity Challenge as a way of encouraging people to be more active and interact with their neighbours, while observing the COVID-19 restrictions. It specifically targets those living on the Shelley estate and Ninefields, Waltham Abbey.
The programme concludes with doorstep carol singing and the opportunity to participate in a colouring competition for all ages. Carols and colouring sheets will be posted to residents the first week of December.
