A message from the Chairman of Epping Forest District Council Cllr Helen Kane to say ‘thank you’ to the men and women who make up our Armed Forces community.
Chairman Helen Kane said:
Armed Forces Day is a wonderful chance for all of us to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.
The celebrations begin on Monday 21 June, when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on famous landmarks around the country and other landmark buildings including the Civic Offices in Epping.
Our armed forces defend the UK and its interests. They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.
In times of conflict and war the UK Armed Forces personnel always step up and do their duty for Queen and Country but today we must also recognise the selfless service of military personnel engaged in COVID-19 operations.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic the armed forces have been on the frontline building hospitals, keeping the supply chain open and operating mobile COVID-19 testing sites throughout the UK. We are proud at a time when the country faced one of its greatest ever crisis that the armed forces were once again leading the way.
As a nation, we continue to be indebted to those who serve in our armed forces and to the veterans whose service we will never forget and always honour.
Today is our chance to say ‘Thank you’
