Residents and council officers pitched in together to bring some natural wildlife and colour to the shopping parade in Shelley in Ongar.
Create great estates
As part of Epping Forest District Council’s ‘Create Great Estates’ project the estates and land team worked with the community, culture and wellbeing team and residents to create 3 planters outside Shelley shops.
The planters not only brighten up the area but also encourage insects and wildlife. Plants were carefully chosen to provide structure, shelter and food for wildlife.
When the plants bloom, they will help enhance the area to make it look decorative, and the leaves are providing a sensory element for residents as they pass by.
Join in with the planting
Shelley residents were invited to join in with the planting, last month and they delivered some lovely positive feedback on the new planters.
One woman said her daughter is going to enjoy watering the new plants while another said they are such lovely planters she’s looking forward to watching them grow from her window!

Where people want to live
Cllr Holly Whitbread, Cabinet Member for Housing said:
This is part of the ‘Create Great Estates, Where People Want to Live’.
We’re encouraging residents to get involved and let us know what they think would improve the estates where they live.
Other residents around the district who have ideas for brightening up their local area should get in touch by emailing GetInvolved@eppingforestdc.gov.uk.
