Discretionary grant fund FAQs
Frequently asked questions (FAQs) to support your discretionary grant fund application.
How do I apply for a discretionary grant?
Applications can only be made using the online form at the bottom of the discretionary grant fund page.
How much is the grant?
The grant is a fixed sum of £5,000 for small businesses and £2,500 for micro businesses.
To be a small business, under the Companies Act 2006, a business must satisfy 2 or more of the following requirements in a year:
- Turnover not more than £10.2 million
- Balance sheet total not more than £5.1 million
- Less than 50 employees
To be a micro business, under the Companies Act 2006, a business must satisfy 2 or more of the following requirements:
- Turnover not more than £632,000
- Balance sheet total not more than £316,000
- Less than 10 employees
When will I get paid?
Once the discretionary grants have been awarded to the priority businesses, as required by the Government, we will process the remainder. It is likely therefore that some applications may take longer before a decision can be made and may be subject to the availability of funds.
We anticipate a high volume of applications but will try to respond to you as quickly as possible. It is likely we may take up to 15 working days from the date the application window closes.
To help us, we ask that you do not submit repeat payment requests or contact us to follow up on your request. Doing so requires us to redirect limited resources to answer calls and individual enquiries, slowing our ability to administer and process payments.
What is the closing date for applications?
The application window closes on 12 July 2020.
How will I know whether I have been awarded a discretionary grant?
If you are an eligible business, we will send you a letter once your grant payment has been processed.
It is also important to understand that this is a limited discretionary funding, made available to the council and unfortunately it is likely that some businesses will not be successful in obtaining a discretionary grant.
Please be aware that all grant funding decisions are final.
How will the grant be paid to me?
Payments are being made via BACS payment only. These can take between 3-5 working days to reach bank accounts from the date of processing.
How can I check the progress of my application?
We would respectfully ask that you do not contact us to follow up on your application or payment; doing so requires us to redirect our resources to answer calls and individual enquiries, slowing our ability to administer and process payments to everyone as quickly as possible.
Once your payment has been processed, we will send you a letter confirming this.
We thank you for your patience at this difficult time.
