Residents are being advised to check the road closures, car parks and access plans around the district over RideLondon weekend 28-29 May.
Access properties and make essential journeys
Community access plans are available on the RideLondon website to help businesses and residents to access property and make essential journeys during the road closures, including 16 vehicle crossing points available along the RideLondon-Essex 100 route on Sunday 29 May.
Cllr Lee Scott, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport and Highways Maintenance, said:
This is a great event for Essex, which will build on the legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games and the visit of Tour de France in 2014. It’s an event which will open up less well-known areas of the county to visitors. If you live on the route and need to go out and about, please plan ahead and check the road closure map and access plans in advance.
Parking
Residents are strongly advised to check parking availability, especially for anyone planning to drive to Epping or Ongar over the weekend.
Epping
On Saturday 28 May, normal access to Bakers Lane and Cottis Lane pay and display car parks will be unavailable due to temporary road closures and the accommodation of RideLondon equipment and vehicles. Temporary arrangements have been made with St. Margaret’s Hospital for public parking when the Classique stage of the women’s cycle tour comes to Epping.
Bakers Lane and Cottis Lane in Epping will be open on Sunday 29 May but motorists should check road closure times for access. On Sunday, there will be restrictions due to the road closures around St Margaret’s with restricted access for part of the day.
Ongar
Access to Ongar pay and display carparks is also restricted across the weekend. Banson’s Lane, The Pleasance, and Ongar Leisure Centre car parks will be used by RideLondon as rider welfare stops on Sunday.
The car parks will be open as usual on Monday 30 May.
The Sainsbury’s car park in Ongar will remain open.
Anyone planning to drive is advised to check the road closure times and park outside the RideLondon footprint if necessary.
