Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth.
Commonwealth Day 2021 falls on Monday 8 March. It is an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth – Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
Proud to be flying the Commonwealth Flag
Chairman of Epping Forest District Council Helen Kane adds her tribute to mark this special day:
Like so many events during these past 12 months, Commonwealth Day is marked rather differently because of COVID-19, yet it will still be celebrated by the 54 Commonwealth countries that are home to 2.4 billion people.
In a year when, as individuals, we have had to remain at a distance, the theme of Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming is inspiring.
It is a theme that highlights how the member countries of the Commonwealth family are ‘innovating, connecting and transforming’ to help achieve some of their biggest goals, like protecting natural resources and boosting trade.
There can be few, if any, parts of the UK that are not home to people with Commonwealth connections. This year’s Commonwealth theme is one that we can strive for in our own communities as we seek to innovate, connect and transform, to create a future after COVID-19 has been suppressed.
This is why Epping Forest District Council is proud to be flying the Commonwealth Flag today, reflecting the deep-rooted network of friendship and goodwill that connects all Commonwealth Countries around the globe.
