Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth.
Commonwealth Day 2022 will be celebrated on Monday 14 March 2022 by people all over the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
Chairman of Epping Forest District Council Helen Kane celebrates this special day:
On Monday 14 March over 54 countries will come together on Commonwealth Day.
This day gives us the opportunity to celebrate the friendship, spirit of unity and achievements of the Commonwealth family.
We have all experienced a very different world over the last two years, across the Commonwealth, inspiring examples of courage, commitment and selfless dedication to duty have been demonstrated in every nation, especially by those working on the front line who have been delivering health care and other public services in their communities.
We have also taken encouragement from the remarkable advances in developing new vaccines and treatments.
These difficult times have given us all, a deeper appreciation of the mutual support, we all enjoy by being connected to others. We all appreciate the sense of closeness that community gives us.
As we look forward to the relaxation of restrictions and enjoy our freedoms once again, we can reflect on the relationships we have built and look forward to a future that is sustainable and more secure, so that the nations and neighbourhoods in which we live, wherever they are located, become healthier and happier places for us all.
That is why Epping Forest District Council are proud to be flying the Commonwealth Flag on Monday 14th March to reflect the deep-rooted networks of friendship and goodwill that connect all the Commonwealth Countries around the globe.
