A change in government policy on COVID-19 testing in Essex means our collect and drop off (PCR) centre at Lindsey Street Community Centre is closing.
The focus moving to Lateral Flow testing offered in Theydon Bois.
Test result in 30 minutes
These centres can give a result in around 30 minutes and we are encouraging all residents to book a Lateral Flow Test (LFT) to quickly find out if they have COVID-19 even if they don’t have symptoms. It is essential to book before turning up for a test.
This will help identify positive asymptomatic COVID-19 cases and those people who may unknowingly be spreading the virus. This is particularly important for those who are unable to work from home and who come into close contact with others as part of their job.
The final date for any PCR tests to be distributed by the Lindsey Street site is Thursday 28 January. It will remain open until Thursday 4 February – the final day that completed tests are collected from the sites. Residents must return any outstanding PCR tests before 4 February. Until then the site is open:
- Monday to Wednesday 9.30am to 4.30pm
- Thursday 9.30am to 12 midday
- Closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Book a test as soon as possible
With LFT an integral part of the county’s COVID-19 response, Essex residents are urged to book one at their local fast testing centre as soon as possible. The locations of the sites mean all residents are within 12 miles of a centre.
Anyone living or working outside of their home in any district of Essex can access a LFT at their local centre or the district they work in.
If you test positive
If you test positive following a LFT, you will be required to arrange a confirmatory PCR test and to self-isolate immediately. There is financial support available to help people whose work is affected.
If you test negative
If you test negative, it is vital that you continue to adhere to current COVID-19 guidelines around Hands, Face, Space.
LFTs are available by appointment only and you can book online or by calling 0333 772 6144. Lines are open from 8am to 8pm every day, including Saturday and Sunday.
Alternatively, you can email booking.confirmation@nhs.net and a member of staff will contact them to arrange an appointment.
