Clean and healthy travel across and around Harlow and Gilston Garden Town lies at the heart of its development philosophy.
Members of Epping Forest District Council’s Cabinet supported 2 new Garden Town documents at their meeting on 25 January.
Active transport
The Garden Town Transport Strategy received support, including a ‘modal shift’ from cars to lower-polluting forms of transport. Councillors then went on to support Harlow and Gilston Town Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan to encourage active and healthy ways of getting around the Garden Town.
Both documents are important elements in Epping Forest District Council’s Climate Change response as well as being submitted to Harlow, East Herts Essex and Hertfordshire County Councils.
Other items
Other issues under discussion at Cabinet included updated policy on the sensitive and environmental management of trees causing structural damage to council properties.
Approval was given to the appointment of a contractor to replace the hard-wired emergency alarm systems in the Council’s sheltered house schemes, and councillors endorsed continued membership of NEPP – the North Essex Parking Partnership.
