Council Tax
Single persons discount review
Epping Forest District Council are currently conducting a review of all Single Person Discounts offered to residents who live alone.
If you received information about this review by letter. You now need to complete the form and confirm your circumstances.
Why are we doing the review?
We are reviewing Council Tax single person discounts to ensure our records are accurate and up to date.
Sometimes people forget to tell us when the number of adults living at an address changes. These changes may be because of the following:
- a new partner has moved in
- a relative has moved in
- a child has turned 18
The review is managed on behalf of the Council by Datatank Ltd. You will receive a letter from this company showing a postal address: Income and Awards Review, Department S4D, Loughborough Road, Nottingham, NG2 7QP.
How to respond
If you receive this letter, you must confirm who lives in your home.
You must include all the details of your current situation, even if you have already notified the council about any change in circumstances.
If your friend or relative keeps their belongings at your house, then your address will be classed as their main residence. Therefore, you would not be longer eligible for Single Person Discount and will need to declare their information during the review.
You can do this in one of the following ways:
By text
Use the number on the review form to text your response.
Online
Complete the form online. You will need the Personal Identification Number (PIN) in your review letter.
If you are still unsure how to complete the form, or your circumstances are not covered, please use the online form, and select ‘Other’ (My circumstances are not covered by the categories above) to write an explanation of your current situation.
Paper form
Fill in the form on the reverse of the letter and send it to the address supplied.
If your circumstances are not covered please include a covering letter with an explanations of your current situation.
The address provided on your letter is a secure local government scanning facility based in Nottingham who provide services to many local authorities.
If we don’t receive a response within 14 days you will receive a reminder letter.
If you fail to respond to the reminder letter, we will assume that your situation has changed and will remove your discount and you will receive a new council tax bill. You may receive a penalty of £70, which will be added to your Council Tax bill.
If the letter you have received is addressed to the previous occupants please mark on the envelope that the person no longer lives at the address and return it to the sender.
If someone is using your address for correspondence only, include their full name and residential address in section B of the form. This will not affect your eligibility for Single Person Discount.
