Councillors visit Police helicopter base at North Weald Airfield.
Councillors Nigel Bedford, John Philip and Les Burrows visited the National Police Air Service (NPAS) at North Weald Airfield, base for the Essex Police helicopter.
Tactical Flight Officer Jason Webb, showed them around the facility, including a trip to the operations room and the spacious hangar where the aircraft is housed and maintained.
The visit finished with a close look at the EC-135 helicopter and the range of hi-tec equipment it carries.
Valuable service
Councillor John Philip, Portfolio holder for the airfield said:
It was a very useful visit to the base and to speak with Jason and Dougie, who is one of their pilots.
It was clear that the police helicopter is not only used for tackling crime but also other reasons such as locating missing persons, many of whom would be considered as vulnerable. I strongly believe we are fortunate to have such a valuable service on our doorstep serving the residents of the Epping Forest district.
