10-week pilot programme of walks, dance and exercise for people living with dementia, and their carers.
10 week programme
A successful funding bid by Epping Forest District Council’s Community Culture and Wellbeing service has helped create a 10-week pilot programme.
The Building Dementia Friendly Communities project includes Walking in Nature, Dance Connect and Falls Prevention sessions coming in September.
Active Essex, is helping fund the sessions that are offered at a subsidised rate for people living with dementia and their carers.
Cllr Aniket Patel, Cabinet Member for Communities said
The team has done a great job in securing the funding for this project which supports a vulnerable section of our community.
Dance Connect uses a variety of energetic, calming and mellow music from the last seven decades to stimulate memories and discussion and get toes tapping.
There is a mix of seated moves and standing options to dance and exercise together in a welcoming and fun atmosphere where everyone can work at their own level.
The first session takes place on Wednesday 9 June 11am-12pm and fortnightly for ten weeks.
- Venue: The Space, Epping Forest District Museum, 39-41 Sun Street, Waltham Abbey EN9 1EL.
- Fee: £5.20 including a free space for a carer or companion.
