From Tuesday 30 November face coverings will be compulsory in shops and on public transport.
The new temporary and precautionary measures are being introduced as a precaution to slow down the spread of the Omicron variant. The best available scientific evidence is that, when used correctly, wearing a face covering contributes to reducing the spread of coronavirus droplets, helping to protect others.
