Essex is celebrating Pride with celebrations in Central Park, Chelmsford on Saturday 21 August!
Here in Epping, outside the Civic Offices, we will fly the Rainbow Flag on that day to acknowledge the diversity within our own community.
It’s an opportunity to reflect on how we recognise and support those from the LGBTQ+ community. In a video message to the district, Council Chairman Helen Kane urges us all to be more tolerant in our communities, saying:
We must all become more tolerant with others in our community who do not fit in to ‘our’ view of the world. In Chelmsford this weekend we will be celebrating Essex Pride. This event showcases how Essex has successfully approached diversity and inclusion.
In conclusion she quotes the words of Irish singer/songwriter Bono:
To be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater.
