In line with Government advice on mass gatherings we have taken the decision to cancel North Weald Market until further notice.
The popular Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday market attracts thousands of visitors to North Weald Airfield every week. It has been operating since the late 80s and was re-launched to further boost its appeal in 2016.
Other cancellations and closures
Other activities that have had to be cancelled or closed include:
- Countrycare team volunteer days

Keeping our residents safe and well
Council Leader Chris Whitbread said:
Our first duty is to keep our residents as safe and well as possible in these difficult times, so we are closing some of our activities until further notice due to Government advice on mass gatherings.
Many staff are now home working and there is a notable reduction in customer footfall to our reception and customer service points as people are self-isolating. We are keeping the situation under constant review.
Our coronavirus community helpline is up and running
Councillor Nigel Bedford, Cabinet Member for Community and Partnerships added:
Our coronavirus community helpline is up and running in the Customer Contact Centre. We are working to identify, and target help for vulnerable residents through our own records and in cooperation with other agencies and voluntary organisations.
The health and wellbeing of our customers and employees is of prime importance to us, and we very much appreciate your understanding in these difficult circumstances.
